  • You are allowed an A4 sized sheet of paper, with up to 30 words, bullet point reminders of your topic.
  • The GCSE Arabic oral lasts between 8 minutes and 10 minutes.
  • It is split into two half's, each half lasting 4 to 5 minutes.
  • In the first half you choose to speak about a picture or talk about a topic like a holiday. This first part is followed by questions on the picture or presentation talk.
  • In the second half there is a general conversation about another topic, like leisure activities for example. This second half lasts for 4 to 5 minutes.
  • For your first theme choose from media, travel or culture.
  • For your second theme choose from sport, leisure or work.
Remember to speak loud enough for the recording to pick up the oral.

Recordings are made using a tape recorder or mp3 player.

After completing the oral exam the recordings are sent to the relevant examining board, usually Edexcel.

The remaining parts of the Arabic GCSE, reading and listening follow the oral, on another day. The written part is usually last.
